Learn something new--always!

Today was a fun day.  During this time, not only do I continue sharing review practice for students and continue book clubs, but I have been able to take time to learn new things for myself.  I have looked at online whiteboards that students and I can engage in simultaneously.  Through the sharing of a few of these with staff and our tech dude, our tech dude told me of another to try...Miro.  So, today I had the opportunity to use this with a few students and my principal but the neatest thing was to be on Google Hangouts at the same time.  So, not only did we collaborate, but we could have a discussion as we were collaborating just like we were in our classroom but with a newfound technology application to use in the future.  "Learn something new.  Try something different.  Convince yourself that you have no limits" (Brian Tracy, 2013).

New Books Old Memories

I got in some new books today!  One I am excited to read is What is the Story of Looney Tunes.  This is one of the books in a group of books Who is, What is, etc.  If you don't know what Looney Tunes is, I will explain.  Back when I was a kid, you know, many decades ago, I was excited to come home from school and turn on "Dr. Max and Mombo" show.  This show was taped in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  One was a grandpa-figure man and the other was a very tall clown.  During the show, Dr. Max would maybe interview someone and introduce the next cartoon and once in a while, Mombo would show a clown trick.  The cartoons shown on this show were usually Looney Tunes.  These cartoons had Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Sylvester the Cat and many more!  These were clean and fun shows.  Something you could always count on to laugh after maybe a tough day of lessons, tests, or even getting teased.  With what is happening currently, I feel bad that not only do our students not get excited to go home and watch a great show like Dr. Max and Mombo but kids today do not know how funny Looney Tunes is.  "We didn't realize we were making memories we just knew we were having fun" (Winnie the Pooh).

Another Week

This past weekend was very interesting.  Years ago, I taught a 4th-grade bilingual classroom in Denver, Colorado.  A few years ago, I was able to connect with a few of my former students.  One of these former students is a 1st-grade teacher in Denver now.  While we were chatting on a social media platform, he shared his video lessons with me.  It is so cool to see a former student teaching.  He is so talented.  Last night, he shared his video recording of him reading a book to his students.  The caring for his students shows in his videos.  I have been connected with him for at least two years and this is the first time that I have been able to see him teaching.  Amazing.  "So often you find that the students you're trying to INSPIRE are the ones that end up inspiring you," (Sean Junkins, 2019).
